Kahraman Mehdigulu oglu Kahramanov was born on December 26, 1925 in the Gafan region of Western Azerbaijan. After graduating from the Okhtar village secondary school, he continued his education at the Azerbaijan State Medical Institute, and in 1952 graduated from the Institute’s treatment-prophylactic faculty. While studying at the institute, he was allowed to enter the post-graduate course in the year he completed his higher education, as he was a Stalin scholarship holder.

In May 1958, he defended his candidacy thesis on “Effect of stimulation of interoreceptors on acetylcholine metabolism” at the scientific council of the Azerbaijan Medical Institute. Academician of the Academy of Science of the Azerbaijan SSR, professor A. Garayev was the academic supervisor.

In 1960–1966, Kahraman Kahramanov prepared and defended his doctoral dissertation on “Cholinergic and adrenergic mechanisms of brain activity” at the “Laboratory of General Physiology of the Central Nervous System” of the Institute of Normal and Pathological Physiology of the USSR Academy of Sciences. In 1966–1970, he was a professor of the Department of Normal Physiology of the Azerbaijan Medical Institute, and in 1970–1991, he was the head of that department.

Kahraman Kahramanov was awarded the honorary title of “Honored Scientist” in 1971, and in 2000 he was awarded the “Order of the Badge of Honor”.

Kahraman Kahramanov was the author of more than 150 scientific publications, 3 textbooks and many monographs. He died on February 5, 2006.
