Western Azerbaijan Community
On 17 February 2026, Amnesty International issued a statement that is entirely unfounded and defamatory in nature regarding the verdict delivered by an Azerbaijani court against individuals of Armenian origin.
First and foremost, we would like to emphasize that the Western Azerbaijan Community has, on various occasions, appealed to Amnesty International to assist in restoring the rights of Azerbaijanis deported from Armenia. However, the organization provided an extremely vague response, effectively refraining from supporting justice.
With its statement of 17 February, Amnesty International has once again demonstrated the underlying reasons for such an approach. By betraying the noble values it proclaims on paper, the organization has effectively aligned itself with the aggressor and with those responsible for ethnic cleansing and the Khojaly genocide, the 34th anniversary of which will be commemorated next week. In doing so, it has shown that it approaches human rights, human suffering, and humanitarian catastrophes solely through a political prism.
Through such a biased and disingenuous stance, Amnesty International is contributing to the erosion of trust in international institutions and undermining their credibility in today’s world.
