Statement on the occasion of November 8 - Victory Day
08 November 2024, 08:46

Our people once again solemnly celebrate the historic Victory of the glorious Azerbaijani Army under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev over Armenia, which had occupied our lands for a long time.

Victory Day on November 8 symbolizes the triumph of justice, fortitude, military might of the Azerbaijani people, who have suffered for many years from occupation, ethnic cleansing and genocide committed by the Armenian armed forces. The victory over the aggressive policy of Armenia, based on racist and expansionist ideology, ensured the supremacy of international law.

The solid foundations of our statehood laid by the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev, his wise policy and national-ideological principles mobilized the determination and strength of our people, and the decisive leadership and military talent of the political successor of the national leader, President Ilham Aliyev, led Azerbaijan to victory both in the political arena and on the battlefield. Thanks to the consistent steps taken under the far-sighted leadership of Ilham Aliyev, our state has fully restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty and entered a new era.

The brilliant victories of the glorious Azerbaijani Army in the Patriotic War in November 2020 and in the anti-terrorist operation in September 2023 once again confirmed the unparalleled patriotism of our people. The fact that our sons, who were born after the occupation of Karabakh and had never seen it, took up arms and fought heroically is an indicator of the fighting spirit of our people and their commitment to the Motherland.

We honor with deep respect the bright memory of our sons and daughters who died for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of our country, and wish healing to those who lost their health.

The liberation of our territories from the occupation by Armenia, the full restoration of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country have strengthened our faith in justice. The West Azerbaijan Community, an organization of Azerbaijanis who were expelled from their homelands as a result of Armenia's policy of ethnic cleansing and have not been able to return to their homes to this day, draws great strength from this historic achievement. As President Ilham Aliyev has stated, justice can only be achieved by believing and fighting for it. With this determination and faith, we are fighting to return to our homes peacefully, with dignity and safety.

The historic Victory of Azerbaijan creates a stronger foundation for the development of our country in conditions of peace and security, as well as for sustainable peace in the region. Unfortunately, Armenia is engaged in activities that hinder the achievement of peace.

Not admitting its responsibility for the countless crimes it has committed against Azerbaijan, not apologizing to Azerbaijan, but on the contrary, continuing to glorify war criminals; Armenia, which does not exclude from its Constitution the provision on territorial claims against our country and which is pursuing a large-scale policy of armament, must refrain from such destructive steps and create conditions for the peaceful return of Western Azerbaijanis in conditions of security and dignity, and to this end, begin a dialogue with the Western Azerbaijan Community. It is unacceptable for Armenia to view the activities of the Western Azerbaijan Community as a threat to its territorial integrity. Our struggle is exclusively a matter of human rights and the return to the lands of our ancestors. We call on the international community to put pressure on Armenia so that it takes the necessary steps mentioned.
