Statement on US Vice President Kamala Harris' Address to the Armenian Community
24 September 2024, 22:35

US Vice President Kamala Harris, as a presidential candidate, referred to the right of return of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh in her address to the American Armenian community

First of all, it should be noted that there is no region in Azerbaijan called “Nagorno-Karabakh.” The use of this term, associated with separatism and occupation, is disrespectful to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.

Furthermore, the Vice President’s reference to the right of return only for ethnic Armenians is discriminatory. The right of Azerbaijanis expelled from Western Azerbaijan to return to their homes is essential to justice and lasting peace. The Vice President’s disregard for the right of return of Western Azerbaijanis is not conducive to peace and is wrong.

We call on Vice President Harris to respect the right of Western Azerbaijanis to return to their homes in safety and dignity and not to discriminate on the basis of ethnicity or religion in the issue of the right of return
