Statement on the policy of double standards between the EU and the USA
06 April 2024, 18:35

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen met in Brussels on April 5, 2024. Despite serious objections from the government and public of Azerbaijan, as well as sensible quarters of the international world, this controversial move has a negative impact on peace and stability in the region.

From the published information about the results of the meeting, it is clear that the European Union and the United States decided to provide significant financial assistance to Armenia. Of course, the information provided to the public does not reflect the full picture.

By providing aid to Armenia rather than Azerbaijan, which is the only party to suffer from the past conflict, the EU and US are rewarding Armenia, which devastated and littered Azerbaijani territory with mines, and encouraging it to carry out new attacks on Azerbaijan. The EU and the US finance this country's massive weapons program through their financial assistance to Armenia.

Despite the requests made by the West Azerbaijani community before the meeting, the fact that the issue of the return of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia was not included in the agenda of the said meeting is evidence of the hypocrisy of the US and the EU on the issue of human rights.

All this once again proves that this meeting served to aggravate the situation, bringing geopolitical competition to the South Caucasus and creating dividing lines in the region.

The West Azerbaijan Community calls on the EU and the US to end the policy of double standards and not take steps that aggravate the situation in the region. If the EU and US are truly interested in human rights and peace, then they should support Azerbaijan, which is suffering from the destruction and mine problem caused by Armenia, and encourage the return of Western Azeris to their ancestral lands, rather than Armenia, which pursues militaristic policies.
