Western Azerbaijan Community

The Western Azerbaijan Community condemns the biased, politicized and beyond the mandate fifth opinion of the Advisory Committee on the implementation of the Council of Europe Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities by Azerbaijan.

The said Council of Europe institution, which remains silent about the ethnic cleansing, destruction of cultural heritage and violation of the right to return carried out by Armenia against Azerbaijan, in its opinion, demonstrates a position of evil and slander against Azerbaijan, and demonstrates favorable behavior towards Armenia, which has become a mono-ethnic country by deporting Azerbaijanis.

In particular, the most obvious indicator of ethnic and religious discrimination is that this Council of Europe structure, ignoring the right to return of Azerbaijanis forcibly expelled from Armenia, speaks only about the right of Armenians to return to Karabakh.

It should be recalled that the repeated requests of the West Azerbaijan Community to the Council of Europe to monitor Armenia's compliance with its human rights obligations, including those arising from the European Convention on Human Rights and the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities, have remained unanswered.

In addition, the conclusion published only now shows that the Advisory Committee has joined the anti-Azerbaijani campaign, which has become stronger in the context of COP29, as have so-called institutions such as Freedom House and corrupt politicians such as Frank Pallone.

All this indicates that a number of Council of Europe structures, in particular the Parliamentary Assembly, have become an instrument of political games against Azerbaijan in the hands of some circles. The Western Azerbaijan Community demands that the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe put an end to the unacceptable political games, ethnic and religious discrimination of the aforementioned consultative institution against Azerbaijan.
