A group of Members of the European Parliament has addressed a letter to the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, written in a spirit of slander and hostility toward Azerbaijan.
Against the backdrop of the initialling of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the potential launch of even trade relations, and the official visit of the President of the European Council, António Costa, to Azerbaijan, such an approach by certain European parliamentarians effectively plays into the hands of revanchist circles in Armenia and beyond. In this context, the decision of the France 24 channel to grant airtime to the remnants of the puppet regime also raises numerous questions. Why does the prospect of establishing peace in the region cause such concern for some in Europe who still refuse to abandon their “old narratives” against Azerbaijan?
We strongly condemn the approach of those European parliamentarians who speak at length about the return of Armenians who voluntarily left Karabakh, while at the same time denying our right—the right of Western Azerbaijanis—to return to our ancestral homes in Armenia, and who view human rights and humanitarian issues through the prism of ethnic and religious bias.
