Statement on the biased and provocative claims against Azerbaijan by a group of members of the Swiss Federal Assembly led by Erich Vontobel
20 September 2024, 15:25

The Western Azerbaijan Community (WACC) condemned the request sent on September 19 by a group of members of the Swiss Federal Assembly led by Erich Vontobel to the Swiss government, which contains biased and provocative statements against Azerbaijan.

This initiative makes unfounded accusations against Azerbaijan and demonstrates a biased position towards our country. The true essence of the request is revealed, in particular, by the reference to biased reports by the pro-Armenian and corrupt Luis Moreno Ocampo.

The Swiss members of parliament have never expressed concern about the crimes committed by Armenia against Azerbaijanis, including the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis from its territory, the occupation of Azerbaijani territories for 30 years, the expulsion of another 800 thousand Azerbaijanis from their native lands and the violation of the right of these persons to return. The hushing up of the gross violation of the rights of Azerbaijanis and the deliberate destruction of the Azerbaijani cultural heritage in Armenia, as well as in the former occupied territories, clearly demonstrates the biased position of the Swiss parliamentarians.

This initiative of the Swiss parliamentarians, based on distorted information, undermines peace and stability in the region and serves to fuel ethnic conflicts. We strongly condemn such initiatives, as they allow racial discrimination and are directed against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as against peace.

We, as the West Azerbaijan Community, call on the members of the Swiss Federal Assembly to abandon biased and unfair initiatives, recognize the right of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia to return to their homelands and act in this matter in accordance with the requirements of international law.
