Statement regarding the claims of the Government of Armenia encroaching on the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan
26 March 2024, 09:56

On March 29 of this year, an event is planned to be held at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in the United States on a topic reflecting such a relic of the past as “Nagorno-Karabakh.” Yeghishe Kirakosyan, the official representative of Armenia on claims filed against Azerbaijan in international courts, is expected to speak at this event, which encroaches on the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

Although the leadership of Armenia makes political statements about recognizing the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, on the legal plane it acts directly opposite to this. Thus, the claims brought by Armenia against Azerbaijan in international courts are based on the thesis that the Karabakh region does not belong to Azerbaijan. The participation and speech of Yeghishe Kirakosyan, representing Armenia in the mentioned claims, at the event at the Fletcher School serves to promote at the international level the legal claims of this state encroaching on the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The fact that the Armenian government is bringing claims in international courts that encroach on the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and is promoting them at the international level, is aggravating the situation in the region. The West Azerbaijan community demands that the Armenian government put an end to these steps. Instead of such provocative actions, Armenia should focus on the return of Azerbaijanis expelled from its territory, investigation of offenses committed against them, and elimination of their consequences.

The Western Azerbaijan Community also calls on the Fletcher School not to hold such a provocative event.
