As is known, a group of persons suspected of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity are currently being brought to justice in Azerbaijan. As a result of these crimes committed during the aggressive war of the Armenian state against Azerbaijan, tens of thousands of Azerbaijanis were killed, hundreds of thousands of our compatriots were subjected to ethnic cleansing, thousands of Azerbaijanis were tortured, went missing, and public and private property was damaged on a large scale.
Violations of human rights and humanitarian law on such a scale and the unprecedented injustice committed were undoubtedly one of the biggest obstacles to achieving peace and harmony. In this sense, bringing to justice some of those responsible for the massacres committed in Khojaly, Garadaghly, Aghdaban and other places and the ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis is a great contribution to the establishment of justice and the achievement of lasting peace.
It is regrettable to note that the Government of the Republic of Armenia and the leading political forces of the country, instead of supporting this just cause and assisting the judicial process, are actually attempting to justify the crimes committed and encourage impunity. Parliaments of a number of European countries, dishonest functionaries working in international organizations and other political circles are also active in this issue.
As a community that has suffered from such crimes against humanity committed by Armenia, such as ethnic cleansing, massacres, destruction of cultural heritage, and obstruction of return to their homes, we strongly condemn the attempts of Armenia and its patrons to justify these crimes, undermine the independence of the judiciary, encourage impunity and demand that they be stopped.
