Statement on Levon Ter-Petrosyan's incitement of hatred towards Azerbaijan
04 January 2025, 18:02

Recently, a video recording of the speech of former Armenian President Levon Ter-Petrosyan at a meeting of the Yerkrapah volunteer association on July 23-24, 1993, was distributed.(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENT3AQ8NpIk).

Levon Ter-Petrosyan's speech as president demonstrates the deeply rooted racism, hatred of the Azerbaijani people, and the policy of occupation in Armenian political circles.

Without further commentary, below is an excerpt from the text of Levon Ter-Petrosyan's speech as president:

"Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh have solved a problem that the Armenian people could not solve for more than 600 years. Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh have been completely cleared of foreign nations. I repeat, this was a 600-year-old problem. The importance of this will be felt by the Armenian people for at least another 600 years. Imagine if today in Armenia there were 180 thousand representatives of a foreign nation, as it was in 1988, then today we would not have a state. We would not be able to protect Zangezur, our northeastern regions, the coast of Sevan. Even here, several autonomies would have emerged. Remember that in three regions, the Azerbaijanis were the majority - Vardenis, Masis and Amasya. In Zangezur, there were too many of them. Now this problem has been solved.

In fact, Armenia was pursuing a policy of ethnic cleansing against the people of Azerbaijan, based on the approach "No population - no problem". All this once again proves that the essence of Armenian statehood does not change from the "Armenian national liberation struggle" of Levon Ter-Petrosyan, from such field commanders as Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan, to the "democratic" rule of Nikol Pashinyan. The goal of the conflict, which Armenia started in 1987, was to create a mono-ethnic space through ethnic cleansing, to create a mythical "Greater Armenia" at the expense of Azerbaijani territories, and the current Armenian authorities continue this crime by not allowing the return of deported Azerbaijanis.

We, immigrants from Western Azerbaijan, are extremely upset that even more than 30 years after these events, the Armenian society and diaspora support or try to hide the above-mentioned speech of Levon Ter-Petrosyan. However, Armenia will not be able to cover up the traces of these systematic bloody crimes and deny them.

We, Western Azerbaijanis, are extremely disappointed that even more than 30 years after these events, the Armenian society and the Armenian Diaspora support or try to hide the above-mentioned speech of Levon Ter-Petrosyan. However, Armenia will not be able to cover up the traces of these systematic bloody crimes, to deny them. We call on the international community to condemn Armenia's racist policy, to urge it to start a dialogue with the Western Azerbaijan Community.

The Western Azerbaijan Community will continue its efforts to hold Armenia accountable within the framework of international law and to ensure the peaceful, safe and dignified return of Western Azerbaijanis to their ancestral homeland.
