Statement of the Western Azerbaijan Community
16 November 2023, 15:33

“Both government officials and Congressmen who spoke at the hearings made statements that impeded peace in the region and incited hostility. It is obvious that the US is greatly concerned about the peace prospect in the region that has emerged after the restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The destructiveness of the US officials’ statements is visible in their content, which is contrary to international law and is slanderous and ethnically discriminatory”

The Western Azerbaijan Community reminds that the US Congress has never held a hearing on Azerbaijan, turned a blind eye to the forced expulsion of more than a million Azerbaijanis, 300,000 of whom were expelled from Armenia, numerous massacres and other inhumane actions of Armenia against Azerbaijanis.

“We would like to remind Stephen O'Brien [United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator] that Armenia and the US use force prohibited by the UN Charter. The US side not only should support the measures that Azerbaijan has taken as part of its right to self-defence, but also learn from Azerbaijan how to avoid causing harm to civilians and civilian infrastructure in the process,” the Western Azerbaijan Community noted.

According to the statement, the fact that the US government, which once suspended Section 907, is now reapplying it has deeply undermined Azerbaijan’s credibility towards the US. Azerbaijan supported the US during the terrorist attack. This shows that the US is unable to maintain long-term partnerships based on mutual respect and trust.

“O'Brien's statement about Azerbaijan's efforts to develop transport routes with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through Iran is an interference in Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and internal affairs. All this proves that the US, seeking to implement its insidious plans in the region, supposedly under the pretext of peace, is actually against it”
