Statement on Scottish MP Kenneth Gibson's paper on Azerbaijan
26 September 2024, 12:36

We strongly condemn the document presented by MP Kenneth Gibson in the Scottish Parliament on September 20.

First of all, we would like to emphasize that the use of the term "Artsakh" in the document, which is associated with ethnic cleansing and occupation, is a disrespect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.

The document attempts to interpret the refusal of the Karabakh Armenians to accept Azerbaijan's offer of reintegration and their voluntary departure from the country as coercion, and makes other unfounded claims.

The author of the document completely ignores the fate of a million Azerbaijanis who were subjected to ethnic cleansing in Armenia and the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.

At the same time, the document does not contain any information about the large-scale destruction committed by Armenia in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, or the installation of 1.5 million mines there.

The document also says nothing about Armenia preventing the return of hundreds of thousands of expelled Azerbaijanis and trying to present their right to return in a negative light.

There is no information about the destruction by Armenia of hundreds of mosques, countless cemeteries and examples of the cultural heritage of the Azerbaijanis.

All this suggests that this document is a continuation of the international campaign carried out by certain forces that do not recognize the fact that the conflict was resolved in accordance with international law and are trying to reignite it.

We strongly condemn such steps and demand that members of the Scottish Parliament stop this provocation.
