Statement on the exaggeration of points related to the deportation of Azerbaijanis from Armenia by UN experts
16 December 2024, 09:33

During the consideration of Armenia's periodic report by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, it is commendable that UN experts highlighted the issues related to the deportation of Azerbaijanis from Armenia and the destruction of the cultural heritage belonging to the Azerbaijani people on the territory of Armenia.

The intolerant attitude of the Armenian delegation to these issues, the next denial of the Azerbaijani people's belonging to our dear Blue Mosque is a clear example of Azerbaijanophobia, the so-called disease of "ethnic exclusivity" deeply rooted in Armenian society. At the same time, this is in complete contradiction with Armenia's favorable words about the normalization of relations between the two countries.

"Just as the policy of denying the right of the Azerbaijani people to the Yukhari Govhar Agha Mosque during the Armenian occupation failed completely, there is no prospect of denying the origin of the Blue Mosque. Neither the hysterical reactions of Armenian officials from the UN rostrum, nor the ridiculous tweets and "replicas" of the racist French ambassador to Armenia can erase the ancient history, rich cultural heritage, traces of the Azerbaijani people.

We regard the recommendation of the Armenian committee in connection with "concerns about hate speeches by officials and politicians in the media and the Internet in the context of Azerbaijan and Armenia" as a recording by the UN of Armenia's racist policy towards Azerbaijanis. In this regard, we call on UN experts to keep the problem of Azerbaijanophobia in Armenia in the spotlight and to constantly monitor the media and Internet space in this country. At the same time, we invite other relevant UN structures to consider the violated rights of Western Azerbaijanis during discussions on Armenia and to make recommendations to this country to eliminate these injustices.
