Statement on the UN resolution “Measures to combat Islamophobia”
16 March 2024, 08:01

On March 15, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly adopted a resolution entitled “Measures to Combat Islamophobia.” The West Azerbaijan community, as one of the first victims of Islamophobia, sincerely welcomes this resolution. The West Azerbaijan community has always actively contributed to international efforts to combat Islamophobia. Last year, the Community's appeal on this topic was circulated as an official document of the UN General Assembly.

“The mentioned resolution, which was voted for by the majority of states, was not supported by Armenia. Considering that Armenia is the cradle of systematic Islamophobia, the country's position on the resolution is not surprising. Let us recall that Armenia, pursuing a policy of Islamophobia at the state level, carried out total ethnic cleansing against Muslims, destroyed places of worship and cemeteries of Muslims. Armenia glorifies war crimes committed against Muslims and criminals committing crimes against humanity. This country still does not allow expelled Azerbaijanis to return to their homelands.

We call on all states united in the fight against Islamophobia and xenophobia to condemn the Islamophobic policies of Armenia and support the safe and dignified return of Azerbaijanis expelled from there to their homes.”
